VINTAGE SEWING MACHINES RE-PURPOSED

VINTAGE SEWING MACHINES RE-PURPOSED

Well hello! Wishing everyone a beautiful and happy THANKSGIVING!!!!
Fall is definitely here…..there are pumpkins everywhere!!!
Have you decided what you’ll be for HALLOWEEN? I’m going to be a “Queen of Lost Souls”.
I bought 4 costumes in Walmart at the end of the season last year. I paid $8.00ea. for these costumes that were priced at $22.95 and $34.95. It’s a fabulous time to purchase things like this, but they may be picked over. You get what you get!!!!

I’d like to tell you about the re-purposing of VINTAGE SEWING MACHINES….

I have two vintage SINGER sewing machines…One is my husband’s grand-mother’s, (in its table base….that still works), and the second was my mother’s, but never had the table, and also still works. Both machines have been converted with a foot peddle to electric.

Makes a lovely hall piece….The black case below is my mother’s machine that I use regularly because it’s mobile, and I can bring it downstairs for more light.

I have a very small entrance-way, but wanted a table at the door. My husband took me to St. Jacobs, Ontario a few years back, (Mennonite community), where we found the perfect table for the front door.
(Decorated for fall....)
A lovely piece of pine replaced the table housing for the sewing machine.

Vintage sewing machines are being reused—-
-as hall console tables, (as I did)….
-as bedside night tables
-as vanities in the bathroom
-as vanity/make-up tables
-as bistro tables, both inside and out
-as plant stands
-as kitchen islands

A makeover worth a THOUSAND WORDS….

Love the fact that two items are re-purposed together…

Sewing machines are also fabulous in retail spaces…like this “All Saints" store. My pictures were taken in Chicago, but there are more in the USA, Canada and Europe….(I am not promoting the store in any way, even though their stuff is really great. I just wanted to show you more pictures of the vintage sewing machines used in their decor).

Each store has similar decor, so that means their designers use hundreds of these vintage sewing machines. They also use old printing presses, gears, and what-ever else they can get their hands on for their interior spaces. Such cool ideas!!!!

SO…happy sewing or re-purposing!!!!!!
