Today, I am writing about RE-USING and RE-PURPOSING vintage suitcases……

They were used, in the past, as we use the typical black pull suitcase today. Now, with so many weight restrictions put on us by the airlines, these beautiful pieces are just too cumbersome for travel in today’s world….

However, this doesn’t mean that they can’t be brought back into the field of “decorating”.

There are so many wonderful uses that decorators have incorporated into thier designs…..

This stack of three vintage brown suitcases greets you as you enter the front hallway…(Seasonal items can be stored in them when not required).

Lavender House Vintage

Love these white leather cases stacked one on top of the other, on the dresser in the bedroom.

Add a punch of colour by stacking suitcases in lovely shades of blue, green and brown.

They come in a myriad of colurs and patterns…add a bit of whimsey with these PINK polka dot cases. (Perfect for a gilr’s room).

Lavender House Vintage

Create a simple vignette with pieces that compliment the vintage style of the suitcases.

The House Wife Wanna Be

I think this is my favorite re-purposing of vintage suitcases….The suitcases were sliced through the centre and then mounted as shelves. Such an ingenious idea. Kudos to the designer.….The “MAD MEN” styling of the dresser below, suits the shelving idea, creating harmony in the space.

Lavender House Vintage

Create your own storage unit in your bedroom with old suitcases, wooden crates and chests.

Keeping the suitcases a neutral colour, ties into the monocramatic colour pallett of the space.
Dream Box Interior Design

Again, the same colours used in the decor are repeated in the large stack of suitcases. And because the stack is so high, it draws the eye upward, creating the illusion of greater height.

Vintage suitcases can also have a distinct purpose… these coffee tables and end tables….

These are actually mounted on an antique weigh scale.

Poetic Home

Paint the legs you’ve added, a custom colour…..

Have these beautiful hall tables greet you at the door. I particularly love the turned legs on the black table.

Dishfunctional Designs

Give your pet a very unique bed.

Doesn’t the doggie look cozy…..

Lucky Enough

Use in a bathroom or powder room….

Half Craft Studio

Customize your own vanity cabinet.

The Cottage Market

I just love this bar cupboard….

Grains of Earth
I guess you could call this your take-anywhere BOOM-BOX…

Lucky Enough

Cool chair!! I’d have to try it out to see how comfortable it is….and you can stow your converters right in the arms….

Fabulous idea if you’re short on storage space….Looks amazing, but hides away all your STUFF.

The DIY Adventures

Chalk paint has become soooo popular lately, combined too, with the colour turquoise. Such a sweet welcome for guests arriving.

With a little imagination, you could propably make enough furniture out of vintage suitcases to fill your home……

JC Redesigns

This picture was actually taken in my family room. By turning the suitcase on its side, makes for the perfect end table in a very small area. I picked it up at a garage sale for $2.00…

I know I’ve said this before, but have fun with your collecting, decorating and DIYing. Your home is your haven, and it should be a reflection of you and your family.

Enjoy what’s left of the fall, as winter isn’t too far off.
Have a great week….Until next time, Judy
