POWDER ROOM UPDATE -- 24/06/2013

POWDER ROOM UP-DATE — 24/06/2013

Happy Monday!!! “TALL SHIPS WERE IN TORONTO HARBOUR”…..just spectacular.

Today, we are showing a small powder room up-date.

I just love a white bathroom, as it can be changed up so quickly and easily with new towels and accessories, and maybe adding a splash of paint….

The client has a fibrant personality, and it shows in the NEON colours of this powder room….

It was actually quite fun, with its brighter than bright colours on the white back-ground.
The tri-fold mirror is from an antique dresser, and was painted neon orange to tie in with the other accessories. (Spray paint is such a wonderful invention!!!!)

The fixtures in the picture are pale grey. They were still in great shape, but esthetically, they had to go….(the 80’s are long gone….)
The vinyl flooring was builder quality and very aged.

NOW, for the transformation…..

The vanity and toilet were taken out and went to “FIXTURE HEAVEN”.
This sweet little vanity, (from Lowe’s), has nice storage, and there is actually a drawer at the bottom of the inside.
The tri-fold mirror was not re-used. Instead, this Moroccan style
mirror was hung above the sink, matching the vanity stain.

The staggered shelves on the walls were kept, but the accessories were toatlly changed….(out with the old, in with the new….)

Accessories were accummulated from different sources, but when put together in one space, it gave this little powder room an adventuresome,
travel the world feel.
The client had a collection of "tortoise shell" pieces that she wanted to some-how be incorporated into the decor, so we made full use of the shelving.

Just because things aren’t made as bathroom pieces, WHO’S TO SAY THAT THEY CAN’T BE USED IN THE BATHROOM…..If you like it, do it!
It’s your house……

The powder room is a great place to go a little more flamboyant with your decor because it will be seen by all, and it’s a small space to decorate, so it won’t be too daunting. Because we kept the powder room all white, we decided to paint the ceiling…..I matched the paint colour to the towel colour, (Behr “Asparagus” — #410-D)…..

I call it my HAPPY green!!!!!

You’ll see on the shelves glass tortoise shell vases, candle holders, and very unique glass purses.

Pretty vintage tile hooks….Great for hanging extra hand towels.

A second glass purse….

We were having trouble finding that PERFECT garbage bin for the space, so the owner, knowing she had some neat things stored away, searched in cupboards, and came up with a totally cool idea…..She had a tortoise shell ice bucket that was stuck at the back of a cupboard, not being used. When we tried it in the powder room, the two of us just stood there “ooohing and ahhhing”….

All the old, ugly vinyl flooring was replaced with a beautiful hardwood through-out the main floor, including the powder room, laundry room, and even in the entrance. The entrance, (for obvious reasons), receives alot of traffic, so an area rug greets you as you walk in…….

On the floor on the opposite side of the toilet, I found this over-sized leopard print silk flower, (from Michael’s), and a wonderful tall vase, in a some-what leopard design, (from Winner’s)…

We still had the pictures to hang on the walls….

And, because there are pictures of different cities, you need to have suit cases…..These two adorable ceramic suit cases were found in an antique store……and sit on the back of the toilet…creating the whole “WORLD TRAVELLER THEME”……

Until next time………Judy
