NO PAGES TO TURN

Hello everyone!  Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day?  I did!!!!  I got to see both of my out-of-town sons.  (Really makes your day when that happens, which isn’t often).

About a week ago, I was out “Thrifting” with a girl-friend, and came across one of those wooden “Keep-sake” books from The Bombay Company, (with no pages to turn).

I already have one that I placed on a hall table for the keys, sunglasses, and bits of mail.

Mine cost about $45.00 half price, but the one I found in the thrift store was $8.00.....Yes! that’s right!!!!  $8.00.

I wanted to give it to my youngest son and his fiance, as a “just because” present, but as a painted piece instead of the original finish, because the lid was rather scratched.

I used “Annie Sloan Chalk Paint” in “Old White” on the exterior of the book....

The interior, I kept unpainted,as it would only get marked with throwing in keys, coins, etc.  The exterior of the book body, I painted a lovely turquoise.  (My future daughter-in-law has already painted a chest of drawers in the same colour scheme, so I knew the colours would be a perfect match).  I also wanted the book to be distressed.....

And this is how the finished book “READS”......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just of late, I seem to be using this Old White paint quite frequently....I decided to give an antique trunk that sits at my front door, a coat....

This is the the BEFORE.....

THIS IS THE AFTER.....

I was unable to paint the back of the trunk, as I have now used the can of “Old White” totally up.  (Time to replace)...  Have a look at some other furniture I have done with Old White here.........

One more piece painted with “Annie Sloan” Old White was a wooden tray that I had previously painted red and yellow.  I envisioned it on our antique desk to hold files....

I even hammered upholstry tacks along the edge.

I loved the way the tray turned out, paint-wise, but not how it looked on the desk.....it was just way too big. (Sometimes, ideas in your head don’t come out right)!  So, I brought up an Oriental one from the basement, also sitting on another antique trunk used as a coffee table), that my brother had given me many years ago.....(He also gave me the antique trunk too)!!!!!!

It fits far better than the larger one...

I shall keep the white one, and use it elsewhere.

In the meantime, have a great week.....Until next time, Judy
